The event was attended by the Vice-Chancellor of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, José María Sanz.
The seminar, "General plan against trafficking with women and sexual abuse of minors", was inaugurated on 30 November 2009 at the UAM Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, where various activities related to this issue were organised throughout the week. Such recurring issues as prostitution, the violation of human rights and sex tourism, among others, were broached from various perspectives.
José España Comendador, a student at the UAM, was the overall champion in the men's category in the 21st UAM cross country competition. In second place was Ernesto Sánchez Burgos, from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, with Jorge Celestino Gosálvez, from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid, coming in in third.
On 4 December, the international seminar, "The colonial memory of the Western Sahara" was held at the Centre for Postgraduate Studies. The event, organised by Juan Carlos Gimeno from the UAM's Department of Social Anthropology and Spanish Philosophical Thought, and José A. Rodríguez Esteban, from the Department of Geography, was attended by professor Francesco Correale, who outlined the hardships endured by Western Sahara under Spanish rule (1884-1976). In his lecture, entitled "Manipulation and gaps in the memory of Spanish colonialism in the Western Sahara", Correale highlighted the weakness in the quality and quantity of scientific output, with the majority of texts on the subject having been written by members of the military who do not view the situation with a critical eye. He also drew attention to the absence of the issue of colonialism at solidarity conferences for Saharan refugees and the rose-tinted portrayal of colonial reality.
Last Wednesday 11 November, the vice-chancellor of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, José María Sanz, and the chairman of PromoMadrid, Jesús Sainz, presented the “PromoMadrid China-EU School of Law 2010” scholarship programme. The programme gives twelve lawyers the opportunity of training in Chinese investment law and establishing contacts with Chinese institutions, companies and professionals. Of the twelve scholarships on offer, eight will be awarded to experienced lawyers pursuing their professional activity in the Madrid Region. The remaining four will be given to young law graduates from Madrid universities.

The aim of the prizes given by the Centre for Entrepreneurial Initiatives of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (CIADE) is to encourage the development of entrerpreneurial initiatives among members (teachers, researchers and students) of any of Madrid's universities, and to turn these projects into quality-based and profitable businesses, or other forms of exploitation, both on a social and economic level.
