The CIADE presents the 7th University Entrepreneur Prizes

The winners of the 7th edition of the University Entrepreneur Prize recieved their awards during a ceremony held on 3 December. The aim of the prizes given by the Centre for Entrepreneurial Initiatives of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (CIADE) is to encourage the development of entrerpreneurial initiatives among members (teachers, researchers and students) of any of Madrid's universities, and to turn these projects into quality-based and profitable businesses, or other forms of exploitation, both on a social and economic level.

During the ceremony, chaired by UAM vice-chancellor José María Sanz Martínez, Inger Berggren, chairperson of the Women's World Bank in Spain, delivered a speech titled “Madera para Emprender” (The Makings of an Entrepreneur), in which she analysed the role of women as entrepreneurs, enumerating the obstacles they have to overcome and the solutions provided by the Women's World Bank to facilitate the process.

The seventh edition of the Prize has been the most widely contested to date, with 85 business ideas submitted and a total of 220 participants. Following a preliminary training stage, 44 projects were chosen to go on to the business plan stage where participants were tutored by members of CIADE. Finally, 27 projects were submitted to the judges who awarded the prizes in each category:

The Caja Madrid Foundation University Entrepreneur Prize of 6000 Euros: Naudit, SL. A company jointly owned by telecommunications teaching and research staff of the UAM and the University of Navarre whose services include measuring the quality of communication networks and precision computer systems, and sophisticated statistical analysis, divided into three business areas: management and supervision of networks and systems, desktop supercomputers and traffic analysis consulting services.

Fundación ACS Prize for the best Social Initiative project, 3000 Euros: Diferenciarte. The aim is to enable people suffering from intellectual disabilities to develop their creative potential and so help widen and strengthen the education, rehabilitation and social integration of the same, providing them with a dignified place in society.

3M Prize for the best Science and Technology project, 3000 Euros: Diomune, SL. A biotechnology firm with three lines of business based on the patented discovery of an immunomodular compound: development of a treatment for canine Leishmaniosis, development of a drug to combat hospital borne septicaemia and the marking of the compound as a adjuvant for vaccines.

AUNO Foundation Prize for the best Humanities and Social Sciences project, 3000 Euros: Nehotec, SL. The aim of Nehotec is to provide companies and educational centres with the tools needed to adapt to new technologies (mainly digital screens), offering a training service designed to enable users to make optimal use of the new technological resources.

The General Foundation of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid Prize for the best project Undertaken by Women, 3000 Euros: Accofal. The project consists of providing child care services for children from 0 to 3 years old in the homes of carers living in rural areas in order to create jobs for women and to reconcile work with family life in these areas.

Madrid Science Park Prize consisting or six months free accommodation in their business incubator: Monotracción. The aim is to develop a new mechanical drive system which is continuous and variable, depending on the force applied. It will initially be used in the cycling sector, although it could also be used in other sectors using transmission systems.

Special Mentions have also been awarded to the runner-up projects in each category in recognition of the quality and to award them first prize in their respective categories should the above-mentioned project not be incorporated before the deadline established in the competition terms and conditions.

Special Mention for the best Social Initiative project: Huella Responsable.

Special Mention for the best Science and Technology project: R&F Technical Solutions.

Special Mention for the best Humanitities and Social Sciences project: Human Data Tech.

Special Mention for the best project Undertaken by Women: Árbol Rojo.

Special Mention for the Madrid Science Park Prize: Documentación Histórica y Digitalización.
